Paver vs Travertine in Las Vegas: Which is Best for Your Patio & Pool Deck in 2026?
Paver vs Travertine in Las Vegas: Which is Best for Your Patio & Pool Deck in 2026?
If you are planning a new patio or pool deck in Las Vegas, you have probably narrowed it down to two options: Concrete Pavers and Natural Travertine.
Both are excellent, both are durable, and both look amazing. But they are very different when it comes to the brutal Las Vegas heat.
At FreshStart Landscaping, we install both every week in Summerlin, Henderson, and across the entire Las Vegas Valley. Here is our honest, expert comparison to help you choose.
1. Heat Resistance - The Most Important Factor in Vegas
Travertine WINS. This is not even close.
Natural travertine has tiny pores that keep it cool. It stays 20-30°F cooler than concrete pavers under the direct Las Vegas sun. You can walk barefoot on your travertine pool deck in July.
Concrete pavers absorb and hold heat. They can get extremely hot by 2 PM.
Our Recommendation: If it’s for a pool deck or anywhere you will walk barefoot, choose Travertine.
2. Durability & Strength
Pavers WIN, slightly.
Both are built for Las Vegas soil and weather. However, concrete pavers are manufactured to be incredibly dense and have a higher PSI strength. They handle heavy furniture, BBQ islands, and outdoor kitchens very well.
Travertine is also very strong, but it is a natural stone. It can chip if you drop something very heavy on it. For driveways, we always recommend pavers.
3. Style & Look
It depends on your home's style.
Travertine: Luxurious, high-end, natural look. Each piece has unique veining. Perfect for modern, luxury homes in Summerlin and Henderson. It instantly increases your home's resale value.
Pavers: More versatile. Comes in 100+ colors, shapes, and patterns. You can create custom designs, borders, and inlays. Perfect if you want a specific color to match your home.
4. Maintenance
Tie.
Both are low-maintenance. Both need sealing every 2-3 years to protect against stains in Las Vegas.
Travertine needs a little more care because it is porous - you must clean spills quickly. Pavers are more stain-resistant.
We offer sealing and cleaning services for both at FreshStart.
5. Cost
Pavers are more affordable.
On average, a paver patio installation in Las Vegas costs 20-30% less than a premium travertine patio. If you have a large area and a tight budget, pavers give you a great look for less.
Travertine is a premium natural stone imported from Turkey and Iran, so it costs more upfront, but adds more long-term value.
Our Expert Verdict for Las Vegas Homes
Choose Travertine if: Your project is a pool deck, you want the coolest surface possible, and you want a luxury, resort-style look.
Choose Pavers if: Your project is a driveway, large patio, walkway, or you want a specific color/design on a budget.
The Best Solution? Combine Both. Many of our best backyard remodels in Las Vegas use Travertine for the pool deck and Pavers for the walkway and patio border. It looks stunning.
Let FreshStart Build It Right
No matter what you choose, installation is everything. A bad base in Las Vegas expansive soil will cause your pavers to sink and crack in one year.
As a licensed contractor (NV License #0092099), we engineer every base for the structural demands of Las Vegas soil, ensuring your patio lasts for 20+ years. We are fully insured and HOA-approved.
